Pressure Sensor Based on Two-Dimensional Photonic-Crystal Ring Resonator

2021
Photonic-crystal (PC)-based sensors have seen an enormous development because of its demand of sensing applications in different fields like defense, health care, automotive, environment, aerospace, and food quality control [B. Troia, A. Paolicelli, F. De Leonardis, V.M.N. Passaro, Photonic-crystals for optical sensing: a review]. In this paper, a pressure sensor based on two-dimensional photonic-crystal ring resonator is designed. The photonic-crystal ring resonator is created on the silicon diaphragm which is of square dimension with the configuration of hole-type photonic-crystal. Refractive index (RI) values of this device are found for different pressures. The normalized-transmission and wavelength-shift for various pressures are observed. Resonant wavelength is observed for each pressure and compared at various pressures. For change in RI on applying pressure on the material, there is shift in the wavelength, and hence, it acts as a pressure sensor. Simulation and analysis is done using finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. This paper is on designing an efficient pressure sensor using two-Dimensional photonic-crystal to work effectively for low pressure systems.
