Impact of circulating CD34~+ cells on cardiac function in patients with acute myocardial infarction

2011
[Objective] To evaluate the impact of circulating CD34-positive mononuclear cells on cardiac function in patients with acute myocardial infarction(AMI).[Methods] The CD34-positive mononuclear cells in circulating were tested on day 2,3,4,5,7,30,90,120 after onset of AMI by flow cytometry. In one month and three months after AMI,the patients underwent cardiac ultrasound examination to compare the heart function.[Results] Flow cytometry revealed that the percentage of circulating CD34-positive mononuclear cell(MNCCD34+) counts significantly increased in patients with AMI(PCI group 2.59±1.44,non-PCI group 1.91±0.64),compared to the low level in control subjects(0.30±0.12,P0.05).Increased levels of the percentage of MNCCD34+ are positively correlated with improved cardiac function.[Conclusion] This is clinical demonstration showing that MNCCD34+ from bone marrow is mobilized into peripheral blood(PB) during an acute ischemic event in humans.Circulating MNCCD34+ may improve cardiac function of ischemic heart disease in humans.
