Introduction: Foundations of Instructional Strategies for Counselor Educators

2013
This chapter establishes the conceptual foundations and rationale for including particular chapter features in the remainder of this book. A logical beginning point is to explore relevant theories and their pertinence to counselor training. There are multiple lines of thought, and corresponding empirical studies, that offer compelling justification for inclusion of active learning strategies in any course. Furthermore, there are salient aspects of training counselors that are unique in comparison to graduate training in other disciplines, which raise to a critical level the importance of self-awareness and active learning.
