Original Article A Derivative UV-Spectrophotometric Method for the Simultaneous Determination of Metoprolol Succinate and Chlorthalidone in Combined Dose Tablet Formulation

2014
A simple, rapid and economic second order derivative UV-spectrophotometric method for the simultaneous determination of metoprolol succinate and chlorthalidone in combined dose tablet formulation has been developed. The wavelengths selected were 227.4 for metoprolol succinate and 229.8 for chlorthalidone. The range of linearity for metoprolol succinate and chlorthalidone was found to be 5-30 μg/ml and 1.3-7.9 μg/ml respectively. The results of precision are found to be quite concurrent and within acceptable limits of deviation. The accuracy studies showed good average recovery of 99.45% and 100.44% for metoprolol succinate and chlorthalidone respectively and free from interference of excipients added. This method has been successfully applied to the simultaneous determination of metoprolol succinate and chlorthalidone in bulk and pharmaceutical preparations.
