The design of an aeration system for cottonseed : Bulk materials handling

1999
Aeration is one method of preventing the deterioration of cottonseed during long term storage. The size, shape and location of the aeration ducts are critical factors in determining the uniformity of air flow throughout the material and the pressure drop for a specified flow rate. As the height of storage increases cottonseed compresses which decreases the permeability with a consequent increase in the pressure gradient. Methods for determining pressure drop are discussed. The design problems in sizing and locating ducts are illustrated with reference to a large cottonseed storage constructed by GrainCorp Operations Ltd at Moree.
