A SEDIMENT LADEN OPEN CHANNEL FLOW SIMULATION WITH RECENT REYNOLDS STRESS-FLUX TRANSPORT MODELS

1993
Characteristics of a sediment laden turbulent channel flow are computed by solving equations for all the Reynolds stresses, the turbulent sediment concentration fluxes and variance using a second moment closure for turbulence (SMC). A Richardson Number analysis shows the gravity effect of the sediment load on the second moments and points out the difficulty of using scale models to reproduce the change, through sediment loading, in the velocity profile, and in turn in the wall shear stress. This feature present in field experiments is well reproduced and explained by the SMC. Preliminary results with a low Reynolds version of the model show large stratification effects in the transition layer also.
