Water Chemistry in the Fishpond Littorals

Water chemistry is one of the important characteristics of a water body: it depends on the geology of the area and on the chemistry of the inflowing water, and it may be influenced by the biotic components of the water body. On the other hand, it affects both the composition and the species diversity of the indigenous biota. Water chemistry is therefore sometimes used as a basis for the classification of water bodies, freshwater and wetland ecosystems (Thienemann, 1926; Naumann, 1932; Bjork, 1967).
