Hide Bundle from the Blood Run Site (Iowa: 13LO2)

2004
As the joint authorship indicates, this chapter is a collaborative effort. Dale R. Henning was one of the two principal archaeologists during the work at Blood Run, excavated the hide bundle, and over saw the unwrapping of it. Jonathan E. Reyman, Curator of Anthropology at the Illinois State Mu seum (ISM), analyzed and interpreted the artifact after it had been unwrapped and also compiled and edited the reports of the other authors. James R. Purdue, Curator and Chair of Zoology at the Illi nois State Museum, performed the DNA analyses of portions of the hides and wrote the report. Fi nally, Duane M. Moore, Senior Clay Mineralogist at the Illinois State Geological Survey (ISGS), per formed the X-ray diffraction analyses on ten samples taken from the hide to identify what ap peared to be red pigment on some of the fragments. His report is the last one in this chapter before the "Conclusions."
