Regenerative Energy Potential of Roped Elevator Systems - A Case Study

2021
This paper analyzes the regenerative energy potential and annual energy consumption of the roped elevator system through a case study. The case study is based on actual measurements performed on a faculty elevator with a synchronous motor with permanent magnets, the non-regenerative power converter, and the regenerative unit. The measurement was carried out for one week under real conditions, and the prediction of annual energy consumption and annual regenerative power generation is made based on the measurement results. The energy efficiency of the system for regenerative and non-regenerative operation of the studied elevator and the total annual energy consumption are calculated according to VDI 4707 and ISO 25745. The obtained results are compared with the predictions based on the measurement results, and the predicted energy savings are presented.
