Effect of Tai chi exercise on plasma neuropeptide Y of old obese type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Objective Study on plasma neuropeptide Y of old obese type 2 diabetes mellitus to investigate the effect of Tai chi exercise to nervoendocrine system. Methods 16 old obese type 2 diabetes mellitus were divided into two groups, one is Tai chi exercise group, 10 subjects, another is free activity group, 6 subjects. They all exercise everyday in 3 months. To observe the changes of plasma NPY and glucose and weight index after three months exercise than before. Result Glucose and weight of tai chi exercise group decreased obviously, But there are only 6 subjects decrease plasma NPY obviously, who were found having high triglycerides. The other 4 subjects increased plasma NPY obviously, who were found having high cholesterol. While the free activity group did not change obviously. Conclusion The effect of Tai chi exercise to plasma NPY on old obese type 2 diabetes mellitus show that tai chi exercise improve metabolic disorder of old obese type 2 diabetes mellitus by regulating nervous-endocrine system of body.
