MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF ELECTRON BEAM WELDED DIN 1.4914 STEEL FOR FUSION DEVICES

1991
DIN 1.4914 steel is a candidate for first wall and blanket modules, because it offers good resistance to helium embrittlement and swelling. The ferritic-martensitic steels require a complex thermo-mechanical treatment for optimum properties. Welding heat input might locally deteriorate those properties. Electron beam welding, EBW, allows fine control of the heat input. The impact toughness, tensile and creep properties of EBW have been measured in the temperature interval of 80–900 K and the results compared with parent metal properties. Low dose, 0.5 dpa, neutron irradiation effects on tensile properties of EBW have been included.
