The new backscattering spectrometer IN16 at the ILL
1997
Abstract We shortly present the new backscattering spectrometer IN16 on the cold source at the ILL. IN16 improves both the neutron flux and the energy resolution over existing backscattering spectrometers by applying focusing techniques. We show typical spectra for the energy resolution function. The narrowest line width measured for the width of the energy resolution function is HWHM = 0.085 μ eV. The standard choice for the energy resolution width lies between HWHM = 0.15 μ eV and HWHM = 0.45 μ eV.
