Use of internal beam of electron synchrotron to study electron-nuclear and photonuclear reactions

1987
A method for the study of electron-nuclear and photonuclear reactions with emission of charged particles is described that is based on passage of the internal beam of an electron synchrotron through a target. A design of an accelerator vacuum chamber is given that substantially reduces the radiation background in the area of the particle detectors. It is shown that the electron beam of a synchrotron that accelerates approx. 5 x 10/sup 8/ electrons/pulse with a cycle frequency of 100 Hz and that passes through a target with a thickness of 1-5 mg/cm/sup 2/ is equivalent to an electron beam with an average current of 3.0-0.6 ..mu..A and a duty factor of 2% for an electron energy of 90 MeV and an energy homogeneity of 5 x 10/sup -3/.
