Battery cell with integrated in housing cover plate rupture disc

2012
It is a battery cell, in particular a lithium-ion battery cell, described in a number of components in comparison with conventional battery cells may be reduced. The battery cell is a metallic casing in which a winding element, two electrodes and an electrolyte are added, using a cap assembly gas- us pressure sealed. The cover assembly includes inter alia a cover plate (23), using which an opening of the housing is largely closed. It is proposed in this cover plate (23) forming a predetermined breaking region (31) having a smaller thickness than surrounding areas of the cover plate (23). Because of this reduced thickness, and supports optionally additionally further diluted weakened regions 35 of the frangible region (31) may be configured to, upon occurrence of an increased internal pressure to burst in the case of the battery cell. The predetermined breaking region (31) as well as the weakened areas (35) can be produced thereby by a local embossment of the top plate metal sheet (23) used, so that the frangible region (31) is integral with the rest of the cover plate (23) may be formed and no additional components such as a film-like rupture disk must be provided and installed.
