SHORT AND LONG-TERM ORAL HEALTH-RELATED QUALITY OF LIFE PERCEPTION IN CHILDHOOD ONCO-HEMATOLOGICAL CANCER

Objective : Childhood cancer often impairs Oral Health-related Quality of Life (OHRQOL), but there are few published investigations that evaluate short and long-term OHRQOL in childhood onco-hematologic malignancies survivors. This paper objective was to summarize issues relevant to OHRQOL and further to present an updated review about childhood onco-hematological cancer survivors OHRQOL perception. Method : investigations about OHRQOL impacts due childhood onco-hematological malignancies and its respective antineoplastic treatments Were thoroughly reviewed using keyword combinations: (1) Oral Health-relate Quality of Life assessment; and (2) Onco-hematological childhood cancer. Also, the related articles and important cited references were thoroughly investigated to certify a full review. OHRQOL perception of childhood onco-hematological survivors were assessed, gathered, compared and a critically reviewed using retrieved data. Results : Childhood cancer patients usually do not report OHRQOL when compared to their paired sex/age siblings, but further investigations are encouraged to more specifically evaluate long-term life’s quality impairments due childhood cancer. Significance of Results : Further investigations are needed to evaluate quality of life long-term impairments in childhood onco-hematological cancer survivors. Interdisciplinary palliative health care, including long-term dental follow-up, can improve Quality of Life perception for childhood onco-hematological survivors.
