Influence of spectral resolution on absorption-line profiles

Abstract The convolution of the instrumental function with the initial line profile resulting in the observed intensity distribution has been analyzed by computer studies. Detailed information about its influence on half-width and total absorption is obtained for a wide range of characteristic parameters.
