Dual-linear polarized array with 9.3:1 Bandwidth and 50° scanning

2021
A dual-linear polarized tightly coupled dipole array (TCDA) is presented with a 9.3:1 bandwidth for voltage standing wave ratio $(\text{VSWR}) . The unit cell of this TCDA is made up of two crossly placed dipole radiators, each fed by a wideband Marchand balun. Each dipole element has a gradient increase of width from the center to edge, and a rectangular patch is placed between two adjacent arms to enhance the capacitive coupling. Therefore, a wider impedance bandwidth is obtained. Besides, a resistive FSS is introduced in loop shape to suppress common-mode resonances, further expending the impedance bandwidth. Finally, the simulation result of infinite array shows a superior wideband performance with a scanning angle down to 50°.
