Evlilikte bağlanma dinamikleri ve çatışma (Attachment dynamics and conflict in marriage)

2019
During the last three decades attachment theory has been used as a framework to investigate adult close relationship, and thus, the dynamics of the romantic relations and marriage have been better understood. In this chapter, we systematically reviewed the related past literature and elaborated why attachment security is closely linked with satisfaction and conflict in marriage. The impact of the two fundamental dimensions of attachment, namely attachment anxiety and avoidance, on relationship functioning starting with satisfaction, commitment to conflict was summarized. Past research has demonstrated that, on the one hand, hyperactivating emotional and behavioral strategies underlying attachment anxiety are strongly associated with the emotional fluctuations, conflict, and negative affect in marital relations. On the other hand, deactivating strategies underlying attachment avoidance is mainly linked with marital dissatisfaction, coldness, and lack of positive affect. These dynamics, however, seem to vary greatly across genders and cultures. These differences, their potential influence and implications for the Turkish cultural context were also discussed.
