A Novel Design of System Level Simulator for Heterogeneous Networks

2017
It is widely recognized that the core features of the fifth generation (5G) communication networks lie in the heterogeneous accesses and that system level simulation is crucial to evaluate the throughput performance of heterogeneous networks. However, system level simulators based on heterogeneous networks only consider the situation where remote radio head (RRH) share the same cell ID with the corresponding eNodeB up to now. We propose a novel design of system level simulation platform for heterogeneous networks in this paper. The proposed platform describes the scene where RRH and eNodeB own different cell ID. It provides a different simulation tool to test algorithms in heterogeneous networks such as load balance algorithm, intra-site coordinated beamforming algorithm, scheduling algorithm, et al. We explicate the core idea of our design embedding the aforementioned feature as well as the details for building the entire platform.
