variable friction gear

2000
The invention relates to an infinitely variable toroidal drive comprising several drive units. Each drive unit has an input disc (4), positioned coaxially in relation to the input shaft with a toroidal inner surface and an output disc (5), positioned coaxially in relation to the input shaft, with a toroidal inner surface, in addition to several friction wheels (2), which are located so that they can pivot between each pair of input (4) and output discs (5) and are respectively mounted onto a support (1). The infinitely variable toroidal drive has a device, which supports the reaction forces that are produced by the pressure of the discs (4, 5) against the friction wheels (2) and simultaneously synchronises the pivoting angle of the support (1). Said device consists of respective traction elements (3, 3'), one being provided on both the upper and lower ends of the two supports (1), said elements encircling the ends of the support (1) and respectively having the shape of an 8.
