Fiber Delivery of Ultrashort Optical Pulses Preshaped on the Basis of a Backward Propagation Solver
2003
This work proposes a backward propagation solver based on the Fourier transform method. To deliver ultrashort optical pulses through single-mode optical fibers, it is necessary to calculate the precise spectral phase and amplitude of the input pulse, which are required to compensate for the pulse broadening due to dispersion and self-phase modulation during fiber propagation. We numerically demonstrate that transform-limited pulses are obtainable by fiber delivery at an energy of up to 5 nJ, 75 fs pulses at 800 nm through a 1 m standard fiber, and of 6-dBm-power, 10 Gbps, 50% duty pulses at 1.55 µm through a standard fiber 80 km long.
