Citizenization and De-citizenization in Older Adults: The Elections of 2012
2015
ABSTRACT Mexico’s older citizens lack social rights and suffer from inequality, but this has not discouraged their electoral participation. International studies have shown that older adults are one of the age groups that votes the most. This article seeks to show that despite the neglect in which senior citizens live, their political influence is important, due to their electoral participation, parti -cularly if we take into account that the country’s population is aging. This research shows the need for studies that would help explain the electoral behavior of this group of the population.KEY WORDS: citizenship, inequality, aging, population, political participation.
