Paper machine speeds are reaching magic border of 2000 m/min. Those high speeds will have new requirements for paper machine suppliers and theirs subcontractors. Fabric supplier as important part of new paper machine concepts should follow new trends and provide good and reliable solution for new requirements. Higher requirements will influence on more careful fabric selection and know-how about influence of fabrics in paper making process. In a paper machine, drying fabrics are used to support the web as it passes through the dryer section. The main purpose of the fabric is to ensure a good thermal contact between the paper web and dryer surface and to maintain sufficient web tension in machine and cross directions. Not less important fabric purpose can be found in runnability of paper machines. Different fabric's geometries will transport different amount of air in the area of dryer pocket during the paper machine run and directly influence on runnability of paper machine. Therefore, the knowledge about the influence of fabric geometry on drying and runnability can give some new aspects in selection of dryer fabric for paper machine. The objective of this work is to study influence of drying fabric's geometry on paper drying and runnability by using dynamic paper drying simulator and runnability pilot machine, respectively.
