The present invention discloses a cable fault location detecting method and apparatus, the method comprising: transmitting a swept frequency signal, the reflection coefficient is calculated at a set frequency, the reflection coefficient is calculated according to the set of frequencies corresponding to the reflection coefficient of the cable relationship between the position of the standing wave ratio or relationship between the position of the cable, or comparing the reflection coefficient of the standing wave ratio and a preset threshold value, or if a reflection coefficient of a VSWR greater than a predetermined threshold value, then the reflection coefficient or the standing wave than the corresponding cable of the cable fault location. The method and apparatus of the present invention provides, without increasing the hardware means without detecting the fault locating equipment carried by a person, by only detecting apparatus can flow between the software to antenna feeder cable break or fault location, greatly reduce the cost, increase the fault diagnostic efficiency and achieve self-diagnostic function of the device.
