Structural and magnetic properties of nitride compounds of the type R2Fe17Nx, R2Fe14BNx and RTiFe11Nx

Abstract The crystallographic structures and magnetic properties of the nitrides of R 2 Fe 17 , R 2 Fe 14 B and RTiFe 11 have been investigated using X-ray diffraction techniques and magnetic measurements. Nitrogen is found to have the effect of increasing the Curie temperature, as it expands the lattice. Moreover, a distinct effect on the magnetocrystalline anisotropy is observed in the nitride compounds. The lattice parameters and magnetic properties of R 2 Fe 17 N x , R 2 Fe 14 BN x and RTiFe 11 N x are reported for R ≡ Y , Sm and Nd .
