Morphotypes of oral isolates of Candida albicans from patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus

1993
Following strain differentiation of isolates of Candida albicans from the mouths of a group of patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus, it was observed that the majority of morphotypes isolated from the early stage of the infection were different from the morphotypes isolated from the advanced stages of the infection, and that a particular morphotype (724), isolated from ARC and AIDS patients, was the most common C. albicans morphotype to occur. Morphotype 724 was not detected in the HIV-Ab+ cohort. This report describes the study and discusses the relevance of the findings in terms of prognostic significance.
