THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION: A KEY PLAYER IN AIR QUALITY PLANNING. STANDING COMMITTEE ON PLANNING

The law suit brought against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Transportation, State of Arizona and City of Phoenix led to the Arizona Department of Transportation's development and implementation of plans to improve air quality by decreasing levels of carbon monoxide, ozone and particulates. The successful MAG 1987 Carbon Monoxide Plan and the Ozone and Particulate plans which were developed and implemented with funds and technical assistance through cooperative efforts on the part of state and local agencies are detailed. The Environmental Protection Agency is called upon to become more actively involved in such plans providing not only financial support, but also reliable information which will assist those who need it.
