The invention relates to an exhaust gas turbocharger for an internal combustion engine, connects with a compressor with compressor and a turbine with a turbine wheel having a shaft fixed for rotation, the compressor wheel and the turbine to one another, with an electric machine which can be connected via a clutch to the exhaust gas turbocharger. According to the invention the exhaust gas turbocharger (1) can be driven by a flywheel mass (57). The invention is suitable for improving the response of the turbocharger and is primarily used in motor vehicle construction.
