Evaluation of gerbera genotypes under protected conditions

2012
Eight genotypes of gerbera were evaluated for their performance under protected condition. Results showed that RCGH-42 recorded maximum no. of leaves (51.33) followed by No. 65 (49.00). RCGH-42 also showed maximum plant height (41.67 cm) and followed by Alsmeera (41.33 cm). However, maximum leaf area was observed in No. 128 (589.36 cm2) followed by RCGH-42 (527.57 cm2) and minimum was recorded in No. 65 (182.54 cm2). Regarding the floral characters maximum flower size was noticed in RCGH-42 (11.27 cm) followed by 146-97 (11.18 cm, RCGH-22 (11.00 cm). No.128 had longest flower stalk length (45.33 cm) followed by RCGH-42 (42.50 cm) and 146-97 (41.93 cm) while, minimum was observed in No. 65 (31.00 cm). However, maximum stalk diameter was found in Alsmeera (5.41 mm) followed by 146-97 (4.60 mm) and RCGH-22 (4.57 mm) and least was recorded in No. 65 (3.63 mm). Maximum flower yield/plant/month was recorded in RCGH-42 (7.33) followed by RCGH-22 (7.00) and 146-97 (6.67). As per the above investigations, RCGH-42, 146-97 and RCGH-22 have emerged as promising genotypes under protected conditions in mid-hills of Uttarakhand.
