This paper described the design and fabrication of an arrester disconnector to prevent a lineground fault caused by arrester deterioration of railway vehicles. The disconnector is composed of a series gap and a resister, and is installed between the ground terminal of arrester and grounding wire. Leakage current of arrester flows to a grounding wire through the resisted in normal operation, and impulse current discharges to the grounding wire through the series gap. Performance of the disconnector was evaluated by the application of a high voltage DC source and a lightning impulse current of 8/20us.
