The role of travel constraints in shaping nostalgia, destination attachment and revisit intentions and the moderating effect of prevention regulatory focus

2021
Abstract: This study investigated the extent that travel constraints affected tourist nostalgia, destination attachment and revisit intentions and examined the moderating role of prevention regulatory focus in this process. Data were collected using an online survey, and structural equation modeling was used to test the proposed hypotheses. It was found that travel constraints positively promoted tourist nostalgia for past destinations and enhanced destination attachment and revisit intentions. Nostalgia was found to fully mediate the effects of travel constraints on destination attachment and revisit intention, destination attachment was found to partially mediate the association between nostalgia and revisit intention, and prevention regulatory focus was found to positively moderate the relationship between travel constraints and nostalgia.
