IS IT SAFEST TO TRAVEL BY BICYCLE, CAR, OR BIG TRUCK?

1999
One in every 11 American families experiences a death in a motor vehicle crash, and crashes are the fourth leading cause of death. More than 5 million people are injured each year, 41,000 accidents per year are fatal, and these crashes lead to losses of 980 million days of life and functioning. This study compares highway crash incidence, injuries and costs by vehicle type, and using Crashworthiness Data System, National Automotive Sampling System, General Estimates System, and Fatal Analysis Reporting System data. The data analysis can be relevant to public policy decisions and resource allocation as well as personal travel decisions.
