Biliary endoprosthesis using an expandable metallic stent

1990
: Expandable metallic stents were inserted to treat malignant obstructive jaundice in 4 patients and no migration was noted. In 2 patients, all stents expanded sufficiently enough to remove the external drainage and remained patent. A relatively small caliber (7 Fr) was needed for the introduction of the stent, and when the stent was released, it acquired a much larger diameter. The expandable metallic stent could be used for the effective treatment of obstructive jaundice.
