Mutagenesis for seedlessness in Citrus

2007
Mutagenesis is a major tool for obtaining desirable traits in many cultigens. In Citrus, gamma irradiation was used to induce mutagenesis in the establishment of seedlessness. Although this random approach requires parthenocarpic capability of Citrus and thousands of mutants have to be screened, it is still the leading method used for obtaining seedlessness in Citrus.
