Encountering the World in our Classrooms

In this presentation we will be using the data from a SSHRC funded, trans-national study of Canadian teacher education programs to explore how teacher preparation institutions across Canada are reconceptualising and operationalizing their education programs to help prospective teachers work in highly diverse, multi-ethnic contexts – whether those are in Canadian schools or further afield in national/international schools throughout the world. This study involved site visits to education programs in each of the 10 Canadian provinces, and drew upon data from current students, alumni, instructors/professors, support staff and administration at each institution. We conclude the presentation with the features being used by education programs to aid their teacher graduates to work in increasingly diverse, multi-ethnic classrooms; whether these classrooms are local or abroad.
