Developments in the control of fine particulate air emissions

1997
A comprehensive review of emerging technologies and recent developments in air pollution control equipment and processes specifically addressing particulate removal is provided here. Emphasis is placed on approaches with a high degree of novelty and/or involving new modifications to conventional systems. Some emerging areas, such as waste incineration, have produced new particulate matter control needs which will be discussed. The subject and key problem areas are introduced, followed by a brief description of the various particle capture mechanisms and the principal technology groups which exploit these mechanisms to achieve particle capture. More details are then given for specific innovative projects, organized principally by technology, as well as by industry sector. Finally, alternatives to end-of-pipe treatment strategies are discussed. An extensive list of references is included, representative of a thorough literature survey.
