Synthesis and Spray Drying of Water-Redispersible Polymer

2010
The present work reveals the preparation of waterborne acrylic emulsion for interior coating. The emulsion was prepared by sequential core-shell polymerization method. The prepared acrylic emulsions were then spray dried and converted into redispersible powder. The effect of different neutralizing agents on the powder transformation yield and redispersibility properties of the polymer powder was studied. The mother emulsion and redispersible emulsion showed similar flexibility, impact resistance, and adhesion property. In addition, this article describes the preparation of redispersible aid by solution polymerization of acrylic acid–methyl methacrylate. The resultant spray-dried powder showed very good redispersibility.
