Disclosed is a device and a method for the contactless measurement of the transmission shafts, in particular on the screw shafts. An optical sensor (16) emits light to the surface to be measured of the edge of the transmission shaft (12) and the reflected scattered light distribution is evaluated to measure the shape deviation. superimposing an optical sensor (16) drive means (14) is parallel to the longitudinal axis (32) of the transmission shaft (12) moves in synchronization with the rotation of the transmission shaft (12), so that the optical sensor (16) (the flank of the gear shaft 12 ) is scanning continuously along a predetermined portion.
