Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is an adverse side effect of bisphosphonates and denosumab intake. Intravenous administration of these drugs in oncological patients at high doses and for more than 2 years increases the risk of MRONJ. Prevention and minimizing the r isk of MRONJ is c rucial. It is pa rticularly important to eliminate the potential infection sources in the oral cavity before starting treatment with anti-resorptive and anti-angiogenic drugs and to avoid injuries and infections in the oral cavity. In case of osteonecrosis, depending on the stage, conser vative or surgical treat - ment should be introduced. The aim of surgical treatment is to remove necrotic bone and provide proper healing condition s. Treatment should be interdisciplinar y. The patient’s quality of life is a priority. The aim of the study was to analyse scientific repor ts on the aetiology, diagnostics and treatment of patients with osteonecrosis of the jaws and establ ish cooperation between a dentist and a general practitioner.
