Square Shaped Fluid Shock Wave Pulses with Variable Time Duration

1979
By discharching linear underwater spark gap arrays, pressure p ulses in axial direction and sufficient distance can be observed. T heir time duration is depending on the array geometrie. The electrical (Marx-generator 60 kV, 1 UF) and mechanical set up are described. With that device square shaped shock wave pulses with an amplitude of 100 bar in 30 cm distance with a time duration between 1 and 100 ps and rise and fall times (1 us can be g enerated. Possible applications of these pulses are cavitation i nvestigations and non destructive testing of boiling water reactor pipe systems.
