A possibility is discussed of usage of magnesium alloys, with the surface modified by plasma-electrolytic treatment (microarc discharge oxidizing – MDO) in order to make objects for biomedical applications. Conditions of the maximum duration of the “defect-less” MDO treatment of the MA2-1 alloy, the influence of the electrolyte composition on the coatings thickness, their porosity and density of the corrosion current were defined. The minimum density of the corrosion current (0.0101 A/m2) was observed when the electrolyte contained 4 g/l of potassium hydroxide and 6 ml/l of sodium silicate.
