Study on the species of the genus Philonthus from Shanghai (Coleoptera:Staphylinidae:Staphylininae)

The species of genus Philonthus from Shanghai,East China were studied.Four species were recognized,of which P. lewisius SHARP,P.foetidus CAMERON,P.explorator CAMERON were new to the Mainland of China,and P.rectangulus SHARP was new to Shanghai.All the species were briefly redescribed and illustrated.
