Study of the production of meson resonances in pion-carbon interactions at p = 40 GeV/c
1981
Cross sections have been obtained for production of rho/sup 0/, ..omega.., and f mesons in ..pi../sup -tsts12/C interactions at p = 40 GeV/c. The average multiplicities of these resonances are as follows: = 0.53 +- 0.05, = 0.52 +- 0.06, and = 0.05 +- 0.04. The distribution of rho mesons in the square of the transverse momentum is satisfactorily described by an exponential with slope B = 2.7 +- 0.4 (GeV/c)/sup -2/. A difference is observed in the behavior of , depending on rapidity, in ..pi../sup -tsts12/C and ..pi../sup -/p interactions, which is satisfactorily explained in the framework of the additive quark model.
