Facile synthesis of [4‐13C] butanoic acid and [4‐13C] butanol

Alkylation of the dianion of 3-(phenylsulfinyl) propanol with [13C] iodomethane and subsequent reductive fission of the sulfoxides gave [4-13C] butanol that was oxidized to give [4-13C] butanoic acid.
