2020
Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of offline (face to face) and online (mobile health) lifestyle interventions for the elderly. Methods: Using the PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, and NDSL databases, we searched for articles published in journals from January 2010 to February 2020. Six offline intervention studies and four online intervention (mobile health) studies were systematically reviewed, and a meta-analysis was conducted using the Comprehensive Meta Analysis 3.0 program. Results: The average PEDro scale of 10 selected papers was 6.3, which was relatively high. Of the 10 studies, there were 8 focusing mainly on physical activity and diet, and 2 studies focused on occupations of participants. As a result of the meta-analysis, the effect size of the offline and online lifestyle interventions were 0.13 (p = 0.035) and 0.27 (p = 0.001), respectively, and both methods were statistically significant with a small effect size. Conclusion: This study confirmed that offline and online lifestyle interventions can be useful approaches to positively affect the health of the elderly. Therefore, the results of this study may be helpful when selecting a lifestyle-related intervention.
