Progress of driving pressure in mechanical ventilation therapy for acute respiratory distress syndrome

2019
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is the most common disease in clinic and one of the most important cause of death for critically ill patients. The management of ARDS still mainly relies on mechanical ventilation. However, which parameter related the protective mechanical ventilation is of significant importance is still not sure.Several researches suggested that driving pressure is more closely associated with prognosis than tidal volume and positive end-expiratory pressure.Serving as a simple assessment tool, driving pressure can efficiently avoid ventilator induced lung injury, guide tidal volume setting and pulmonary recruitment. This article summarizes the recent development of driving pressure in the mechanical ventilation of ARDS. Key words: Respiratory distress syndrome, adult; Respiration, artificial; Driving pressure
