DENMARK) Can global fisheries be sustainable

Resumo da palestra: Our natural environments are increasingly managed by environmental engineering. The management is put in place to enforce conservation of fragile habitat and species and to ensure that living resources are sustainably harvested and not overexploited. As a topical example I consider here the case of global marine fisheries. Fisheries extract resources (fish) from their natural habitat (the oceans). Can such an activity be considered sustainable? I will describe global fisheries and discuss conflicting definitions of sustainable fisheries. Finally, I will consider fisheries in the context of UNs goals for sustainable development.
