Immediate post-abortion insertion of the dalkon shield

Abstract To document the safety and use-effectiveness of the immediate post-abortion insertion of an IUD, 259 women were fitted with a Dalkon Shield immediately after treatment of an incomplete abortion. Ten percent of the patients were admitted with a diagnosis of septic, inevitable or incomplete abortion. Most patients (79.9%) were treated by DC expulsion, 3.7; removal for bleeding, 4.2. There were no removals for pain.
