CLINICAL AND HISTOMORPHOLOGIC PROFILE OF ORAL POTENTIALLY MALIGNANT DISORDERS IN A BRAZILIAN POPULATION

Objectives To analyze a series of cases about oral potentially malignant disorders. This study aimed to tracing a clinical and histomorphologic profile of these disorders and compare with the data collected in other Brazilian and world populations. Study Design The study is characterized as a cross-sectional retrospective study, based on the collection cases of potentially malignant disorders. The data were analyzed through descriptive statistics. Results The result showed that 50.5% of clinical diagnoses were leukoplakia with a median age 54.9 years and men were more prevalent in the sample studied; regarding skin color, 50.5% were white individuals. And, based on the classification of dysplasias, from the binary system, most lesions were grouped as low risk. Conclusions Most frequent lesions in the studied population were leukoplakias, the majority was older in the fourth decade of life, male, and white. Further, the lesions that presented epithelial dysplasia were majority lesions of low risk of malignant transformation.
