Direct kinetic study of the reaction of OH radicals with methyl-ethyl-ketone

The low-pressure discharge flow technique with resonance fluorescence monitoring of OH has been applied to study the kinetics of the overall reaction:
$$ OH + CH_3 C(O)CH_2 CH_3 \to products $$

The rate constant of k 1 = (1.09 ± 0.09(1σ)) × 10−12 cm3 molecule−1 s−1 has been determined at T = 297 ± 3 K. This value agrees well with the IUPAC recommendation which is based on photolysis kinetic studies.
